Fran Drescher is an American actor, comedian, writer, activist, and trade union leader. On September 30, 1957, she was born in a Jewish family to Sylvia Drescher, a bridal consultant, and Morty Drescher, who worked as a naval systems analyst. Her ancestry is from Central and Southeast Europe. Her maternal great-grandmother was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States. Her father’s family originated in Poland. She has only one sibling, Nadine.

She went to Parsons Junior High School in Flushing, New York, and then to the Hillcrest High School in Jamaica. Drescher continued her education at Queens College, City University of New York, but quit after the first year since all acting classes were full. Later she went to cosmetology school.

• Drescher returned to television in the 2000s, both as a leader and as a guest star. Drescher played Roberta Diaz in episodes of the short-lived sitcom Good Morning, Miami in 2003. She made a comeback in 2005 with the sitcom Living with Fran. Drescher returned to television in 2010 with The Fran Drescher Tawk Show, her own daytime chat show. Drescher made her Broadway debut in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella production on February 4, 2014.
