Prime Time: Create a Lasting Base

Step 1: Start With Eyeshadow Primer

An eyeshadow primer helps your look last longer, prevents creasing, and makes colors pop. While I personally love the MAC Paint Pot, I’m still on the hunt for a great drugstore option. If you’ve found one that works for you, feel free to drop a recommendation in the comments.
Expert Tip: If you don’t have a primer, a light dab of concealer can also work in a pinch.

The Ultimate Time-Saver: Eyeshadow Guards

Step 2: Apply Eyeshadow Shields for Precision

This is one of my favorite hacks for saving time and achieving clean results. Eyeshadow guards catch fallout and create a crisp edge for your eyeliner or shadow. I use the ones from my brand, available at any.shop—but sticky tape works too if you’re in a bind.

Everyday Glam: Shadow in Seconds

Step 3: Blend a Soft Brown in the Crease

Grab a neutral eyeshadow palette—I used one from Essence that features soft mattes and shimmers, ideal for a wearable look.

  • Use a fluffy brush (like the Sigma E40) to sweep a light brown shade into the crease. This gives your eyes depth and makes the look more dimensional without being over the top.

Step 4: Add a Shimmery Pop with Your Finger

Using your fingertip, tap a shimmery pink or champagne shade onto the lid. Brushes can work, but fingers often give better color payoff, especially with metallics.

Define Without Drama: Easy Eyeliner Tricks

Step 5: Apply a Simple Gel Liner

For eyeliner, I used the Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner and applied it using an angled brow brush. Here’s the method:

  • Draw a thin line along your upper lash line.
  • Use the edge of the eyeshadow guard as a guide to wing it out subtly—great for mornings when precision isn’t your strong suit.

You can keep the eyeshadow guard on for that clean wing or remove it before applying concealer underneath to sharpen the line.

Soft Smudge: A Smokey Twist

Step 6: Soften with Shadow

To add a little drama without going overboard:

  • Use a dark brown shade and a small detail brush to gently smudge above the gel liner.
  • This softens the line and gives a more natural finish.

Clean & Crisp: Conceal for a Lift

Step 7: Sharpen With Concealer

A small swipe of Barry M Concealer under the wing will:

  • Clean up any fallout
  • Sharpen the liner
  • Instantly lift the outer corner of the eye

Blend with a flat brush or sponge for a seamless finish.

Line It Up: Add a Pop to the Waterline

Step 8: Brighten With a Copper Pencil

Instead of black or nude, try a copper-brown pencil for the lower waterline. I used one from L’Oréal, which reminds me of the Urban Decay “Lucky” pencil—minus the high price tag.
These shades complement all eye colors and give a subtle, fresh glow.

Flutter Ready: Mascara & Lashes

Step 9: Curl and Coat

  • Curl your lashes quickly
  • Apply a coat of Rimmel Wonder’Luxe Volume Mascara

Keep the top lashes light if you’re applying falsies—heavy mascara can make lash application tricky.

Step 10: Add Natural-Looking Falsies

For an everyday look, I used lashes from my brand in the style “Impishly”—lightweight, flattering, and perfect for work or school.
If you’re not into falsies, skip them and apply a second coat of mascara to your upper lashes instead.

Pro Tips:

  • Always prep your lids to extend wear time.
  • Fingers work best for shimmer application.
  • Keep a small concealer brush nearby to sharpen lines quickly.
  • Practice makes perfect—soon this routine will feel like second nature.

Wrap-Up: Look Polished in Minutes

This 5-minute eye makeup routine is ideal for busy mornings. It’s simple, effective, and uses affordable drugstore products that deliver results. With just a few tools and techniques, you can elevate your look—no MUA required.
