Bijou Phillips is an actress, model, socialite, and singer from the United States. She was born on April 1, 1980, in Greenwich, Connecticut. Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips and his then-wife, Geneviève Wate, a South African model, artist, and actress. Her name was inspired by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross’ song “My Petite Bijou” (Bijou means “diamond” in French).

She is Phillips’ youngest child. She has a brother, Tamerlane, and three half-siblings; Mackenzie, Jeffrey, and Chynna. After her parents’ divorce, Bijou was placed in foster care with a family in Bolton Landing, New York. Both her parents failed to get her custody. She, however, visited her parents regularly who lived in the same area.

When she was 13 years old, her half-sister Mackenzie informed Philips about her (Mackenzie’s) ten-year incestuous connection with their father. This news disturbed her relationship with her father and had a shattering impact on Bijou’s adolescent years. She moved to another apartment with a care taker and started living life on her own terms. With no one to advise her, she soon went on a wrong path and started taking drugs.

Philips began her career as a model. However, she admitted her dislike towards modelling career. She later moved on to become a singer and an actor.
