Blackheads on Chin – Causes, Facts and Home Remedies

Blackheads are small swellings that appear on your skin caused by clogged hair follicles. They are a mild type of acne. They are called blackheads because they appear black or dark. They may look so ugly if they remain untreated. There are some cases of blackheads that need special care especially if they reappear frequently.

Blackheads can appear almost anywhere on your body, including your chin. There are several methods for treating blackheads that appear on the chin, but let’s first look at what causes them to appear.

  • Blackheads are mild forms of acne. They form when plugs block the openings of hair follicles.
  • Each hair follicle has one hair and sebaceous gland which produces oil known as sebum.
  • Sebum is the one responsible for keeping your skin soft. When dead skin cells and oil collect at the opening of skin follicles, they make bumps known as comedos.
  • When the skin remains closed, the bumps are known as whiteheads. When the skin opens, they get exposed to the which air makes them appear black and blackheads form.

Some Factors Stimulate Blackheads to Appear on Our Chin. They Include:

(i). Stress: Cells that secrete sebum have stress receptors. Hence, stress can make blackheads appear on your chin.

(ii). Hormonal Imbalance: Hormonal imbalance is one factor that usually causes blackheads. You’ll realize blackheads usually appear during pregnancy, during menstrual periods and at puberty.

(iii). Poor diet: Poor diet can bring about the imbalance in the small intestines which can cause blackheads.

(iv). Drugs: Certain drugs such as androgens, corticosteroids, and lithium can cause blackheads.

(v). Producing excess oils: If your body secretes too much oil, it may end up clogging on your chin hence causing blackheads.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads on Chin

There are several methods that you can apply to get rid of blackheads on the chin. You can decide to:

1. Exfoliate

Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells from your chin; it will unclog the pores. But you have to be careful not to over-exfoliate because it may worsen your condition. Make sure to use gentle scrubs on your chin.

2. Use Blackhead Removal Strips

You can use blackhead removal strips to remove blackheads on your chin. Make sure you get a high-quality strip to avoid scarring your chin.

3. Use Sea Salt

Sea salt is a good antibacterial that can unclog closed pores on your chin. Mix sea salt with some lemon juice and water. Use the mixture to massage your chin gently. Try this every morning and evening before you go to bed. It usually removes dead skin hence removing blackheads.

4. Apply Orange Peel

Peel some oranges and dry them. Crush them to make a powder then mix with water. Apply the mixture on your chin and leave it for about 15 minutes. Afterward, use some warm water to wash the area gently. It will remove blackheads and prevent excess oil production.

5. Use a Clay Mask

Clay masks are very useful in removing grime and dirt from your skin. Take some clay (either bentonite of Fuller’s earth clay) and mix it with water to make clay paste. Apply the paste on the blackheads on your chin. When it dries, wash the clay off using water.

Blackheads can be a real nuisance. With blackheads on your chin, you won’t glow that much. You need to get rid of them. Try the above methods; you will come out shining.
