How to Use Baking Soda for Diaper Rash?




This symptom is generally seen during the first six months. Infants display a reddened bottom as their skin slowly adapts to urine and stool. All babies go through this phase of annoying diaper rashes. The problem becomes even more severe with the use of diapers on a daily basis. In some older babies the problem of rashes also occurs due to the use of antibiotics, teething, change in the regular diet, and so many other reasons. Here are some ways of using baking soda for diaper rash.

Baking soda is extremely useful in combating diaper rashes in babies. It has great alkalizing properties which help to cure the diaper rashes easily.

  • Being very alkaline it is able to reduce the acid content of the affected area and soothes the skin.
  • It protects the delicate skin from the acids that cause extreme infection in the baby.
  • It prevents the growth of bacteria of yeast.
  • It has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that fight against the bacteria and fungus in the diaper rash area.
  • Overall, it helps to reduce the pain, irritation and also the inflammation caused due to the rashes.

How to Use Baking Soda for Diaper Rash?

1. Baking Soda Paste for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 heaping tablespoons of baking soda
  • 3 to 4 cups of warm water.
  • A clean piece of cloth

Procedure:

  • Mix the baking soda into the water thoroughly.
  • Clean the diaper rashes of your baby.
  • Soak the clean washcloth into the solution
  • Use it to wash your baby’s skin.
  • Pat it dry.
  • Do not rub the skin.
  • Repeat 3 to 4 times a day.

Benefit: This method shows its effect fast with less discomfort.

2. Baking Soda Spray for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • Warm water 2 cups.

Procedure:

  • Mix the baking soda into the water thoroughly.
  • Pour the mixture into a clean and sterilized spray bottle.
  • Clean the diaper rashes of your baby.
  • Spray the on the mixture affected area
  • Repeat 3 to 4 times a day.

3. Baking Soda Bath for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 1 baby bathtub of warm water.

Procedure:

  • Draw a warm water bath for your baby.
  • Pour the baking soda into it
  • Give your baby a bath for about 10 minutes.
  • You can also just wash the affected area only using a clean piece of cloth.
  • Use this method at least 2 times a day till rashes are reduced.

4. Vaseline and Baking Soda for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of Vaseline.

Procedure:

  • Gently apply the paste on the affected area.
  • Cover the area with a clean piece of cloth
  • Let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Clean the area.

5. Cornstarch and Baking Soda Bath for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.

Procedure:

  • Draw a warm water bath for your baby.
  • Pour the two ingredients into it
  • Give your baby a bath.
  • Use this method whenever you are giving a bath till rashes are reduced.

Benefit: Cornstarch is a natural exfoliating agent and quickly heals the skin along with baking soda.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.

Procedure:

  • Draw a warm water bath for your baby.
  • Pour the two salts into it
  • Soak your baby’s bum for 20 minutes.
  • Use this method whenever you are giving a bath till rashes are reduced.

Benefit: Apple Cider Vinegar balances the pH of the skin and heals it.

7. Epsom salt and Baking Soda Bath for Diaper Rash:

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt.

  • Pour the two salts into it
  • Give your baby a bath.
  • Use this method whenever you are giving a bath till rashes are reduced.

Benefit: Epsom salt gently exfoliates the delicate skin of the baby.
