How to Use Baking Soda as a Colon Cleanse?



Colon cleansing is good if one wants to get rid of constipation or improve digestive health. It can be done using various simple home remedies which also includes baking soda scientifically known as sodium bicarbonate.

When the baking soda solution enters into the gut, it allows water to be pulled into the intestines. This softens the stool and increases its volume thereby helping you cleanse your colon.

How to Use Baking Soda for Colon Cleanse:

1. Baking Soda and Water for Colon Cleanse:


  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 glass of warm water

How to do:

  • Mix baking soda with warm water.
  • Drink this mixture every morning before taking breakfast.

Best time to take: In the morning, on an empty stomach

Repetitions: Once a day


  • Do not consume too much of it as can be fatal.
  • Take a high-fiber diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds, whole grains, and nuts.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda Colon Cleanse:


  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • A glass of water

How to do:

  • Mix baking soda and apple cider vinegar in a bowl.
  • Add this mixture to a glass of water and stir well.
  • Drink this mixture every morning before taking breakfast.

Best time to take: In the morning, on an empty stomach.

Repetitions: Once a day.


  • Excessive dosage may have ill effects on your health.
  • Take a high-fiber diet to aid cleansing.

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women, people who have kidney or liver problems, heart disease, hypertension or edema must avoid this colon cleansing.
  • It is not recommended for people who are on aspirin, anti-anxiety drugs, antibiotic tetracycline, and diabetes medication as baking soda can interact with your medications.
  • It can cause side effects such as cramping, vomiting, nausea, pancreatitis, infection, and bowel perforation.
  • Avoid calcium supplements and foods high in calcium such as milk, cheese, and yogurt while doing this colon cleansing.
  • Avoid this colon cleansing if you are allergic to baking soda or apple cider vinegar.

Although it seems safe to use, your doctor’s consultation is still required. He will suggest it after reviewing your medical history. If you are suffering from constipation or for any other reason would like to cleanse your colon, make sure to discuss it first with your physician. Drink plenty of water since colon cleansing often leads to dehydration and do not forget to take a healthy diet.
